MANILA - AT LEAST 288 people died and more than forty were reported still missing as super typhoon Ketsana locally known as Typhoon Ondoy whipped the country particularly Metro Manila and suburbs last September 26 leaving its paths with widespread devastation. Reports said that as heavy rains poured within hours, flood waters rapidly rose in the rivers of Pasig, and Marikina where thousands of shanties are built nearby and along these riverbanks.

PAUL wrote in Romans 8:28”… we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who has been called according to His purpose.” This is a wonderful verse in the Scriptures, but sometimes we don’t really understand what it is saying. Some Christians seem to think that it is telling us that God has promised those who loved Him that everything that will happen to them will always be good. But that is not true. That is not what God is promising at all. What this verse says is that when we love God, although we experience some bad things in our life, the Lord will work it out for our good.

“(We) exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.” I Thes. 4:1 (KJV) In my first few weeks in Canada, I went church-hunting a lot, visiting up to 4 Baptist churches. Of course I was looking for a church that teaches sound Biblical doctrines and practices. But in addition that, being so church-homesick, I guess I was hoping to find a carbon copy of what I was used to back home. I figured out that was quite impossible, since all congregations are unique. So, I resorted to trying to find a spiritual home that seems to have the best “package”, humanly speaking.

JEREMIAH is often called the “weeping prophet” because of his nation’s rebellious attitude against God. Sensitive and sympathetic by nature, he nevertheless was commanded by God to deliver a stern message of judgment. The opposition he faced was cruel and crushing, so much so that more than once he wanted to resign from his office as prophet; yet he continued faithfully to proclaim God’s Word.

Is it true that because Jesus was whipped we are healed? Yes, it is true. Not in the Physical sense as many say this passage means but in the spiritual sense. The verse says that Jesus was “wounded for our transgressions”

Our 2nd Soul Winning Leadership Conference is already upon us. We have our kick-off services today, Sept. 06 both morning and afternoon, along with our worship services. Stewardship has to do with what God has given us and how well we manage them. To understand this topic simpler, we must establish that most of the water we drink from its point of origin comes from a well. Those born in the countryside or on a farm know this fact very well. On a farm, you had to find a source of water before you build a house. Land has no value if it does not have water. Well water is always located below the surface. The farmer has to select a good site, dig a deep cistern, & tap the well springs of underground water. The farmer enlarged the hole, built walls around it, and placed a bucket at the top, so that he could draw water from the bottom. He called this completed system a well.
