SEVEN (7) GUIDELINES FOR FAMILIES

(Prov. 13: 20;14:1)

 

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”(Prov. 13: 20)
“Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.” (Prov. 14:1)
1. Maintain proper fellowship (v. 20).
a)Right (good) companion increases wisdom
b)Wrong (bad) companion destroys.

2. Have a purpose in living (v. 21)
“Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous, good shall be repaid” (Prov. 13:21)
a)Righteousness does have a reward.
b)Sin has always a temporary pleasure.

3. Be future oriented (v. 22)
“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.” (Prov. 13 22).
a)The past is the past.
b)Plan to impact your grandchildren.

4. Develop wisdoam (v. 23)
“Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.”
a)Much of what we worked hard for is lost through ignorance & slothfulness,

5. Pursue discipline & correction (v. 24)
“He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” (Prov. 13: 24)
a)The longer you let it out of control, the harder it will be to get under control.
b)Consistency & equality are the keys.

6. Learn to be content (v. 25)
“The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.” (Prov. 13: 25)
a)Learn to enjoy simple things.
b)The unnecessary & vain create an appetite for more of the same.

7. Build the home (Prov. 14: 1)
a)God is the Architect, the husband is the foreman and the contractor; the wife is the builder.
b)One builds, the other tears down.
