ROLE MODELS

IN our society today, people look up to many role models. These role models may include a family member, a friend, or a celebrity. Most of the time, we look to celebrities and aspire to be like them. As we watch movies, sporting events, or concerts, we become more and more attracted to the glamour, fame, and money involved with these celebrities. As young people grow up, they are looking up to these celebrities, imitating their clothing, their language, and even their lifestyle. These celebrities, however, are not perfect. In fact, they may be the biggest moral failures in spite of their glamour, fame, and money. The one true role model we should all be aspiring to is the One, Jesus Christ.

15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:15-17

As we learn more about Jesus Christ in the Bible, we realize that He is everything that a human should be. To mention a few, He is loving, kind, gracious, merciful, holy, just, strong, and forgiving (Psalm 145:8,9; Revelation 4:8; Proverbs 18:10). When we strive to be more like Jesus Christ, we will find true joy and abundant life because He will never fail us no matter how many times we fail Him. Jesus Christ is the ultimate role model we, as Christians, and all humans should be looking up to. Right now, people are idolizing other people, but in the end everyone will be looking up to Jesus Christ.

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:10-11)
